It’s known as the Reality Capture Conference. So of course R-CON fixates on technology.
But at its core, R-CON is really a people conference. Because without them, technological advancement and expanded adoption are mere pipe dreams (note; we couldn’t opt for “The People Conference” as a tagline due to vagueness overload, even if it is a great 80s band name.)
The influential, passionate people that comprise reality capture are why R-CON has made the RCN Awards a mainstay, dating back to the conference’s inaugural gathering in 2021.
The Reality Capture Network takes no greater pride than showcasing these stewards of innovation and connection. 2024’s RCN Award Recipients are that in spades, in addition to being patently delightful human beings.
Dr. Thomas Czerniawski, who apparently lives with 30-hour days, as he is an Applied Machine Learning Scientist at Integrated Projects, adjunct faculty in Arizona State University’s School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment, and a Committees Advisory Board Member at RCN.
And yet, somehow, his knowledge is topped only by his vigor, as he has been instrumental in advancing digitization.
Thomas is also OG RCN. RCN Conference #1, with that infinitesimal head count compared to today? He was there. The first whispers of whether RCN Committees were even feasible, much less successful? He was whispering. This industry having Thomas as one of its pillars is an exquisite privilege.
Morgan Drivas, VDC Field Manager at JTM Construction, has seen a meteoric rise in reality capture due to her advocacy, abilities, and remarkable story.
She’s gone from an MMA fighter to a champion of broadened reality capture, emphasizing the untapped potential that resides in our youth, working mothers, and numerous other groups to which few industry pros have paid mind. She is as focused on the next generation as much as herself, and that is why she is a cornerstone of the industry’s crucial growth.
Catch Morgan’s outstanding interview on the RCN Podcast, recorded in September 2024.
Thomas and Morgan exemplify the technical prowess and collaborative spirit that drive our industry forward, and selecting them for 2024’s RCN Awards is simply the least we could do. As we look to the future, their work reminds us that the most significant advancements come not just from technological breakthroughs, but from the people who ensure those breakthroughs go their furthest.
If you, a colleague, or peer are cut from the same cloth as Thomas or Morgan, RCN would love to consider you next year! Keep watch for details on R-CON 2025, and together, let’s keep making strides to take this industry where it needs to be.
