why we exist
Reality Capture Network exists to amplify the innovators and doers shaping the built environment. Our purpose is to highlight their stories, connect their ideas, and empower professionals to confidently embrace emerging technologies, take risks, and lead positive change. We want to help people become known for their work, trusted for their perspective, and connected to others who are building with intention. It is a place where innovation meets practicality, and where long-term progress matters more than short-term noise. We envision a future where every person in this industry feels inspired, equipped, and supported to innovate, grow their career or business, and help build a better, more connected, and more forward thinking world.
what we believe
The future is built by people who dare to try something new. The doers. The thinkers. The risk takers. The ones who see a better way and step toward it even when it feels uncertain.
Innovation does not start with technology. It starts with people. People willing to learn, experiment, and lead. People who choose growth over comfort. People who push through fear to build what comes next.
At Reality Capture Network, we amplify those people. We tell their stories because storytelling inspires courage. We showcase emerging technologies because knowledge sparks possibility. We create spaces where professionals connect because community fuels progress.

RCN’s Beginnings
Reality Capture Network was founded in April 2020 by Matthew Byrd with a simple but ambitious goal: create a place where people shaping the built environment could learn faster, think deeper, and grow together.
What started as a podcast quickly revealed a bigger need. Professionals across construction, engineering, industrial, geospatial, reality capture, digital twin, and emerging technology were not just looking for tools or trends. They were looking for clarity, context, and connection in an industry changing faster than most people could keep up with.
RCN evolved into an ecosystem designed to amplify innovators and support professionals at every stage of their journey, from hands-on practitioners to founders, leaders, and emerging voices.
RCN's FOUNDER
Matthew Byrd is an entrepreneur, advisor, and speaker focused on helping people navigate innovation, technology, and leadership across the built environment with clarity and purpose.
His career began in geospatial services and reality capture in 2009, followed by years of hands-on field experience that shaped his perspective on technology adoption and real-world implementation. In 2016, he founded Nexus 3D Consulting, which grew into a globally recognized reality capture and geospatial services firm before being acquired in 2023.
While building companies and working alongside organizations such as ExxonMobil, Tesla, Microsoft, Amazon, AECOM, HDR, the U.S. Department of Defense, and hundreds of other firms, Matthew noticed a recurring pattern: the most impactful people in the industry were often the least visible. Incredible practitioners, founders, and leaders were doing meaningful work, yet their voices, lessons, and perspectives were rarely being shared.
Reality Capture Network was created to change that.
Today, Matthew’s focus is on amplifying innovators and helping individuals become known for what they actually do best. His work centers on guiding professionals to define their niche, build real authority through experience, and show up with intention rather than noise. He believes thought leadership is not about self-promotion or chasing attention, but about earning trust and using visibility in service of others.
Through RCN’s media, events, education, and community, Matthew helps surface overlooked stories, connect disciplines, and bring more thoughtful voices into the spotlight. His long-term goal is to create a global ecosystem where people with depth, integrity, and lived experience are empowered to lead conversations, shape industries, and inspire the next generation.
